The 8.52 M long and low sleek design of the Trakkaway 850 takes advantage of its base vehicle, the Fiat Ducato AL-KO chassis. Offering tandem rear axles and frontwheel-drive – and with the entire drivetrain ahead of the front seats – the Ducato provides design fl exibility so interior space can be fully maximised. The low centre of gravity means that both driver and passenger are in for a comfortable and safe ride, with independent suspension increasing stability and road holding ability when on the move.
The Trakkaway 850 is powered by a 3.0 litre intercooled turbocharged diesel engine with a maximum power of 115kW and 400Nm of torque, matched to a six-speed automatic transmission. Safety features include driver and passenger air bags, as well as ABS ventilated disc brakes front and rear.

The interior layout provides separate areas for lounging, dining and sleeping, while still allowing for a permanent island double bed (two single beds are an option), along with separate shower and bathroom areas. The lounge area, located away from the kitchen, features a spacious, leather-upholstered lounge and a multi- positional table that can be swivelled and moved to suit the occasion. Chefs will love the kitchen, which includes an elevated, easy-access, two-door 175-litre fridge, a full-size gas oven and grill, slide-out pantry and a covered 17-litre microwave oven. Bench space is generous, with an extension that doesn’t interfere with the entry area, and additional storage is in overhead roof lockers. The bathroom, with separate toilet and shower areas, can be easily accessed from both the bedroom and living areas. It’s complemented by practical additions such as screened Turbo vents for both shower and toilet, a vanity basin, shaving cabinet and mirror and even a teak shower grate that offers a non-slip surface for ablutions.

Along with the island double bed, the bedroom area also has bedside tables and wardrobes, a privacy room divider and additional storage under the bed.
There’s even a second TV position for late-night viewing (the main television in the lounge is a 48cm HDD TV/DVD model). A second double bed is permanently fitted over the cab, lifted with gas struts.

While some of the Trakkaway 850’s features aren’t visually prominent, they certainly add to the total livability. Ducted air conditioning for effective air distribution heads the list, and is followed by ducted diesel heating (for warm winter nights when you’re away from mains power), two powered skylights, built-in screens and blinds for ventilation and privacy, a dimming function for ceiling and exterior lights, and a 125 watt solar panel as standard – right down to a drinking water filtration system. Outdoor living has also been incorporated, with an outdoor hot/cold shower, work bench, stainless steel marine quality barbecue, large awning and loads of external lockers and a boot.

While the Trakkaway 850 is certainly a luxury motorhome, Trakka’s years of experience in designing motorhomes that are meant to be used and not just to be admired have created a real home -away- from-home.
